Zeiss-Ikon Super Ikonta A
Super Ikonta was the name of a series of folding bellows medium format cameras made since 1934, when two different models were marketed, one for 6x4.5 and another for 6x9. Following Zeiss catalogue serial numbering, these models were the 530 and the 530/2 respectively. Sometimes the first one is referred to as the Super Ikonta A, and the second as the Super Ikonta C. A short while after the introduction of these models in the market, a thirs model was added to the series: the 530/16 for 6x6 also known as Super Ikonta B. There was even a 530/15 model for film type 616, known as Super Ikonta D.
In 1937, Zeiss changed the coding of their Super Ikonta. The 530 was then renamed as 531 for the "A" and "C" models, and 532 for the "B" model. Model "D" was dropped by 1936.
As said, the Super Ikonta A is a high quality compact folding camera, capable of 16 pictures in size 6x4.5 for 120 film with a die-cast model, painted black and in case of the 530 and chromed for the 531. Front door, can be open with a button located in the upper part of the camera, which also releases the Albada viewfinder. The Super Ikonta 531 also has a release button in the top cover, while the shutter in a 530 has its own actuation lever.
This model has a coupled rangefinder that is integrated on the body of the camera, together with the Albada finder. Rangefinder is independent of this finder, with its own window and a rotating wedge to measure the distance. The lens has front unit focusing, and moving the gear for the rangefinder also focuses the lens. The rangefinder post must be rotated to its resting position before the camera can be closed.
Lens is a 75mm Tessar with maximum aperture of f/3.5, uncoatedand with minimum aperture of f/22. Shutter is a 9-speed Compur-Rapid with a top speed of 1/500 plus B.
Camera measures approximately 120x92x45mm (closed) or 120x92x90 (opened) and weights almost 600 grams.
